What I actually wore #0030

Serial #: 0030
Date: 29/08/2009
Weather: a top temperature of 15.5°C during the day;
FREEZING at night
Time Allowed: 10 minutes
A Saturday night in the middle of winter, a movie with the boys.
I didn’t feel like going ultra casual despite the cool temperature, and picked out a black leather pencil skirt that I had not yet got round to wearing. The semi-transparent knit top I chose to wear with it is vintage 70s; I love the blouse sleeves and their little ties at the wrist.
…that bag is loud and brash like
the 80s, and I love it!
Just so I wouldn’t be wearing all black, I stepped into a pair of patent taupe heels and carried a new metallic bag that I’d picked up at the Salvos for $10. It is embossed with a reptile skin texture; studded; and you just can’t miss those enormous bronze coloured crystals. Combined with the gold chain, that bag is loud and brash like the 80s, and I love it!
But it was winter, and for the life of me I can’t remember wearing a jacket. I do recall dashing across the street just to warm up – daring enough of me in those heels! – so I fear I was silly enough to go out without a cover-up. Did I not learn from all those years living with my mother? “You aren’t going out like that! You’ll freeze!” Indeed.

Vote For Meeee!

If you’re not spending delicious moments browsing through my pages (heaven forbid!), do take the time to check out The Lovelies.
Not only a pretty place to shop all sorts of blogs, but here you can vote for your favourites. (Meeeee! Vote for me!*) If you don’t want to vote for me, don’t go there, stay here, pleeease! Just kidding.
My jolie French friend Lulue agreed to cast a pink-enveloped vote for me in this quaint vintage post box… if only you could see the ghastly original, all covered in graffiti and bumper stickers. She looks lovely herself in this late summer sunshine, wearing a sweet floral dress by label Gyegi, from design a space and little vanilla snakeskin sandals from Nine West.
Go forth and enjoy!

The Blue Angels

Although these days I moonlight as winged creatures of various sorts only on these pages, there was a favourite dress from my childhood that I always thought of as my ‘angel’ dress. When I lifted my arms, the short sleeves would fall like little wings. I loved it.
Pale Alice blue with white piping, I thought I was so special whenever I wore it, which was often as possible.
Here I am with my sisters and my niece, all of us together frocked in blue … a veritable flock of angels! Navy, stripes, denim, and sprigs of flowers – they’re all there in their 70s glory.
What is even funnier in an earlier photo in this series, is that I was clothed quite differently (although still in blue). I must have foreseen the photo op, and gone quickly to change into my favourite dress.
Here I am wearing a favourite, and faded, Abba t-shirt, and a cotton skirt trimmed with a flounce. I remember the pale blue, white and grey floral print so well. I am even wearing blue bobbles in my hair.
I love this candid photo, from my sister Lily giving Blossom rabbit ears; my own observation of this same event as I swing from a pole; the blue VW in the driveway; the totem tennis pole in the foreground; even my sister Star just visible through the flyscreen watching through my bedroom window.
Get Into the 21st Century, Cupid!

What’s with Cupid these days anyway? Has he been carousing too much with Bacchus or something? Whatever, but his aim has turned CRAP! He’s either missing targets entirely, or bagging the wrong bird. You just can’t rely on him anymore.
Or maybe he’s just not using SatNav?
Time for Princess to take over. Send me your global recognition points peoples, and I’ll engage to hit the bullseye.
Happy Valentine’s Day.

Birthday Bobbies

I turned one year older this week, and this is one of the sweet little gifts I received from a friend.
At first I thought of babushkas, just because of the image on the card, and the striped patterns on the pins. But then I realised, of course, they were little flapper girls, with bobs! Bobs on bobby pins. Too bad I don’t actually have a bob, although I’ve worn several incarnations over the years.
… they were little flapper girls,
with bobs!
My friend Rapunzel found these Monique Germon pins at a very cute boutique called i dream a highway, an evocative name if ever I heard one. She says she could easily stock her entire wardrobe from there, and after browsing through their gallery, I quite agree. Fortunately for my purse it’s quite a long way to go for me. I might just have to wait until next year.
